I’m continually blown away by Cory’s horn section. They have that extreme tightness and phrasing all the best sections have, e.g. the Brecker Brothers and the Seawind horns.

My poor pup had a rough day. I had to leave for a couple hours to open a new bank account, mail packages to family and get some groceries while our friends were down in the garage cleaning and sorting a mountain of tools. While I was gone she was upstairs and knew people were in her garage. She didn’t bark much but she was a hot mess when I got home, anxiety off the charts, panting and whining. Once I got things settled back down after everyone left, she hung out by the back door waiting for one of her guys to come home. My son is at a show and scored a free VIP pass and was hanging out with a metal band called Behemoth before the show, he will probably be home around midnight. She misses him so much, along with my husband. I hope they can spend time together this weekend, they both need it.

And of course taking the picture woke her up…

What makes this all the more pitiful is that there’s virtually no chance at this point that the report is going to be more meaningful than just recommending that Trump be charged with something. A recommendation that we all know Garland is going to get right atop of…once he finds time in his busy schedule of avoiding any cases that might look “political.”

This is pretty much what most people thought was the original aim of Russia to begin with, seizing the Donbas outright and claiming enough territory to create a land bridge to Crimea. If they’d gone with that from the beginning, they might have had a chance of pulling it off. But they got greedy, they thought they could bum-rush Kyiv and take the whole country in one go. Now they’re a spent, demoralized military force that’s desperately holding onto what they’ve already taken. Good luck.

Yes, the Russians certainly seem to have porked the puppy.

And add to that, Putin went out of his way to ‘po’ everybody and their neighbor as well. And now, just backing out of Ukraine will not be enough because nobody believes him anymore.

Going to be interesting to see if he can wiggle his way out of this mess he caused.

Yeah no I will just keep the carbs out of my diet (burp, I love oatmeal and vanilla Greek yogurt)

For more than a decade, 51-year-old management consultant Steve Gallagher has been managing his rheumatoid arthritis — and chronic pain — via diet and exercise. The North Fork, LI, resident stuck to a strict regimen despite being bombarded with quack suggestions.

“When you have a disease like this, everyone says they have the cure — your mom clips something out of Reader’s Digest to send to you,” he said. Still, when his physician, Dr. Qingping Yao at Stony Brook University, asked if he wanted to join the beta trial of an intriguing new probiotic pill, he figured it couldn’t hurt. “‘Everything is worth a try,’” he added, of his thought process at the time.

Within weeks of starting it, he said he could increase the time he spent working out by 10%. Now, a year into his regimen, Gallagher’s workouts are 40% longer and significantly more intense. He is also down 7 pounds, even though his weight has rarely fluctuated in the past. “I’m a believer,” he said.

What he’s come to believe in, specifically, isn’t just any old gut health vitamin. Gallagher was part of a trial for a pill, which is being marketed under the name Nella, that contains bacteria harvested from the poop of high-performing athletes.

Sounds like they need a stand down.

A sailor aboard the USS George Washington in Virginia fatally shot himself last week — the third sailor assigned to the ship to take their own life this month, and the 7th this year, according to reports.

Master-at-Arms Seaman Recruit Xavier Hunter Mitchell-Sandor died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on April 15, Virginia’s Chief Medical Examiner Office confirmed, the United States Navy Institute News reported.

Officials from the Naval Criminal Investigation Service would not confirm whether Mitchell-Sandor was on duty at the time or if he had used a service weapon. No other details were released about the incident as the investigation continues.

“NCIS is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of MASR Xavier Mitchell-Sandor, as we do in response to all non-combat, medically unattended fatalities of Department of the Navy service members,” spokesman Jeff Houston told USNI News in a statement.

According to the Navy, Mitchell-Sandor was found unresponsive on board the ship. He was transported to the Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, where he was pronounced dead.

Mitchell-Sandor, who had reportedly enlisted in August, was the third soldier assigned to the ship to commit suicide in the span of week.

There’s a reason the Navy has a high turnover. The stress is killer. Not only is the isolation rough, but, when I was on the ship, a “day” is either 14 or 15 hours long. You do your watch time for 5 hours, and you have ten hours to take care of training, exercise, laundry, and whatever else, and sleep. The watch at midnight is only 4 hours long.

Not everyone is built for that. I wasn’t.

Note the date. Then realize we are still dealing with this shit (the fight over masking on planes)

That was pre-vaccine. We still don’t know whether we are really seeing the end of the pandemic here or not. We cannot rely on case count as a meaningful measure now that most people test at home and most cases are not officially included anyway. If, as a result of vaccinations, this disease is fading into the background as an endemic illness, with a mortality rate comparable to the flu, people will ignore it in their daily lives, as long as they are willing to be vaccinated on a regular basis, which may mean twice a year.

A warning against plotting to unseat Putin. My guess is that they were involved in a conspiracy to remove Putin and end this war. Putin is boldly telling everyone that death awaits all who want to stop this unjust conflict. Putin is a monster and so is anyone who supports him.

Beau on why Disney’s going to have to leave. Even though it will be super-expensive for them and they won’t be at all happy about it. And why other big companies will be reluctant to come to Florida, knowing that whatever deal they make could be vaporized at a governor’s whim:

My OLED TV has a very small line going through the length of the screen near the very top of the screen. Sigh. Guess I’ll have to live with it.

Leaving only if they lose in court. And Beau doesn’t think that will happen because he has confidence in the Disney attorneys. In the unlikely event that the Disney lawyers fail, blue states that might be happy to host Disney are in less hospitable climes. Every southern state is a red state; they are all deplorable.

The NY Times article on this stated: He wrote that, by changing certain gender-based definitions, the company was taking part in efforts to “degrade the English language and deny reality.”

On one aspect I do agree, the dictionary is participating in degrading the English language. When they added “irregardless” as an acceptable word, that was definitely an outrage and a step too far.

Hmm… I’ll need to put that in the queue.

I’m still pondering the fact that we park on a driveway and drive on a parkway.
